Elkhead/Northfork is known for its comfort and hunting. This portion of the ranch consists of 37,000 acres. Much of it borders the Routt National Forest, and the number of elk found here can stagger one's imagination. I have been running this ranch for the last 18 years, and it also has never had a year where the harvest % has dipped under 90%.

In the months of October, November, and December this ranch controls a major migration path; therefore, every elk in this basin migrates directly through the center of this ranch. It is not uncommon during this migration to see several herds of 500 to 700 head.

Even though this ranch is famous for its migrating elk herd, it also controls some very productive habitat during the bugle hunts of September. We normally book groups of 4 to 6 during the September time frame and groups of 6-10 for the October/November migration hunts.

As far as expectation, this ranch is similar to the Slater Camp. It has the ability to provide any type of hunter an excellent opportunity for a harvest. It also has a well established road system that can get hunters in close proximity to the wildlife. Other areas will require some physical exertion, so like the Slater Camp, this ranch can offer about any type of hunting a person desires.

The housing here consists of a 3 story log lodge, with all the modern conveniences. The main floor consists of the dining room, kitchen, living room and 3 private bedrooms, that can sleep anywhere from 6 to 8 clients. The upstairs consist of a loft that sleeps 3 and a private bedroom that sleeps 2-4. While the basement offers three private bedrooms.

Steamboat Springs and the amenities that it presents is a little over an hour’s drive. Many clients have found that this place not only suited their needs, but was also relaxing for their spouses.  Scenic tours and trips to Steamboat can be arranged with prior notice and a separate treaty.
